I’m not much of a fan of Modern Art but there is such a variety of art at SFMOMA that one can’t help but be impressed. The collection of street art murals was a surprise, the living wall impressed, and the scale/content/vibrancy/craftsmanship of Diego Rivera’s “Pan-American Unity Mural” was worth the price of admission by itself. I went on a Sunday morning and it wasn’t that crowded. I suggest you start on the 7th floor and work your way down to the first- ending with Rivera’s masterpiece. Allow for at least 2 hours and don’t forget to enjoy Olafur Eliasson’s color tunnel.
The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art is a HUGE collection of American and European art from the impressionist era to present day. And the artists are all there displayed on the walls. Dozens of gallery's over multiple floors. Place was relatively quiet with less crowds in the early afternoon. Very well organized and managed. Well worth the visit. Note ratings below. This was not a tour. Individuals and small groups are free to enjoy the artwork without the need for a tour.
